Catherine Kenga has been elected as the new Kilifi County Assembly Speaker.

Kenga was declared the Speaker after securing 41 out of 47 votes from members of the county assembly.

Kenga, the first Woman to be elected as a speaker fom the Coast region, takes over from Teddy Mwambire who was impeached early this month.

Mwambire was imprached for alleged gross misconduct, sabotage, incompetence and abuse of office.

40 MCAs supported the impeachment motion. 10 MCAs 10 voted against the motion to impeach Mwambire.
